The Somali Heritage & Museum of Alberta

The museum will offer a range of immersive cultural experiences that transport visitors into the heart of Somali culture & heritage, empowering the community, while establishing Alberta as the leading hub for immersive cultural tourism destination.

We offer:

Somali nomadic village :
Visitors can stroll through a life-size recreation of a traditional Somali nomadic dwelling, complete with authentic tents, furnishings, and interactive displays:
Supports economic empowerment:
among Somali traditional artists and creators;
Engage youth:
Introduce youth to the possibility of a career in the arts and creative sectors;
Save space for social connections:
between generations passing cultural tradition and heritage down to new generations;
Education programs through Museum:
promoting tourism, providing home to over 700 Somali artifacts, historical portraits, & storytelling sessions by elders bringing the museum's artifacts and exhibits to life;
Live music and dance, and poetry performances:
Held regularly, allowing visitors to experience the rhythms and movements that are central to Somali cultural expression;
Field trips:
to foster cultural exchange and research opportunities;
Somali language and cuisine classes

Somali cuisine

Somali cuisine is a tasty adventure that reflects the flavors and traditions of the Somali people. It's all about delicious, hearty meals that celebrate the love for fresh ingredients and aromatic spices. Staple foods like rice, pasta, and the spongy flatbread called "injera" accompany flavorful dishes made with beef. The food reflects the warmth and hospitality of Somali culture, where sharing meals is a cherished tradition that brings people together.
